On 13 June, 2025, China & Southeast Asian Fishery Cooperation Conference jointly organized by China Fisheries Association (CFA) and Fuzhou Municipal Bureau of Ocean and Fishery, and supported by Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences was grandly held at Fuzhou Strait International Convention and Exhibition. Representatives of embassies and consulates, business associations, scientific researchers, industry experts and director of enterprises from China and Southeast Asia participated in the conference, discussing the innovative development path for sustainable development and collaboration opportunities of China and Southeast Asian Fisheries.
Leaders, experts, and entrepreneurs including Cui Lifeng, the president of China Fisheries Association, Weng xinping, Deputy Director of Fujian Provincial Department of Ocean and Fisheries, Chen Zonglin, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Fuzhou Municipal People's Congress, Zeng Shizong, the Secretary of Fuzhou Marine and Fishery Technology Center, Li Shengli, the Executive Vice President and Secretary General of China Fisheries Association, Dr. Chen Yingcai, the Agricultural Consul of the Consulate General of Thailand in Guangzhou, Mr. Montaganti Tamting, the Marine Aquaculture Research and Development Division, Thai Fisheries Department, Shamaneng Desaiti, the Coastal Aquaculture and Development Bureau, Thai Fisheries Department, Sitzurianah bintismall, the First Secretary of the Embassy of Malaysia in China, Bao Feisi, the political and Economic Officer of the Consulate General of the Philippines in Xiamen, Professor Neil Langragan, former President of the Asian Fisheries Society, Liu Liping, the professor of Shanghai Ocean University and Chairman of the Asian Fisheries Society, Dr. Guo Zhiqing from Hainan University, Zhang Qingli, the Researcher at the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, Liu Shaochun, the president of Yueyang Yumeikang Biotechnology Co., Ltd, Zhang Zuoming, the deputy secretary general of the Malaysian Aquaculture Merchants Association, attended the meeting. Dr. Zhang Song, the vice President of Nutriera Group, shared the aquaculture situation in Southeast Asia which occupies an important position in the global aquaculture, mainly cultivates shrimp, barracuda, tilapia and other species. Dr Zhang Song provided a detailed introduction about the production of aquatic feed in Southeast Asian countries. At present, Southeast Asian aquatic industry is still facing a lots of problems, such as lacking excellent seedling and relying on natural bait. For the domestic aquatic feed enterprise, going global has immense opportunity. Southeast Asia has great water sources, stable climate and temperature, abundant labor resources, and is backed by China's huge consumer market. This is unique conditions for the development of aquaculture.
But domestic enterprises will meet many various challenges while going global. It is necessary to choose investment methods that are suitable for enterprises, fully considering local policy, geopolitics, security situation, exchange rate fluctuations, and settlement methods. For the feed technology, it’s also necessary to reevaluate the usage of local and international raw materials so that formulate development strategies tailored to local conditions. In addition, Dr. Zhang Song shared the market expansion experience and development models of Nutriera team at Southeast Asia over the past nearly 20 years.
At last, Dr. Zhang Song said that the overseas expansion of the "Belt and Road" is full of challenges and opportunities.
